10th Annual GLAD Benefit at the Hollywood House of Blues!
10th Annual House of Blues GLAD Benefit – Ken Paves from GLAD House of Blues on Vimeo. I’ve been named Creative Director of this rather extravagant event, thanks to Ken Paves, an ever-persistent ally of the deaf community. And not only that, he is practically fluent in American Sign Language, and he wears it well. Through this process, I’ve had the honor of working with Elise Whitworth, CEO of Eventida (http://www.eventida.com) and she is a true superwoman. I highly recommend her anywhere you go when it comes to event planning. She’s sure to think of all sorts of things you probably haven’t thought of. And not only this, I got to work with the Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness, and it’s been quite a trip so far. I am looking forward to putting together a super fantastic show for everybody, especially in the hopes to bring the hearing and deaf communities together. http://www.gladinc.org/events/house-of-blues
“Beyond Essays” Short Film Now Online!
A deaf activist student, Wanda Macy, [Kalen Feeney] simply tries to get a passing grade so she can graduate from college, in spite of her malicious adversary, her English professor, Genevive Taylor, [Amber Zion] who only cares about winning a Distinguished Faculty of the Year award. Is there more to this relationship than we think? A short film in American Sign Language– Subtitled in English for access. Created by a chiefly female crew and with an entire deaf cast, this film is the first in it’s unique process of the writer creating all the lines in American Sign Language and giving the lines to the actors, instead of having them translate the English dialogue into ASL, for the sake of preserving the acting process and allowing the actors to build around the lines, instead of creating their own. ****AUDIENCE AWARD WINNER IN VALLEY FILM FESTIVAL**** ****OFFICIAL SELECTION IN VALLEY FILM FESTIVAL**** ****OFFICIAL SELECTION IN MAINE DEAF FILM FESTIVAL**** ****OFFICIAL SELECTION IN TORONTO INTERNATIONAL DEAF FILM & ARTS FESTIVAL**** ****NOMINATED FOR BEST DRAMA SHORT FOR DEAFFEST IN WOLVERHAMPTON, U.K.**** * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Directed & Written by Jules Dameron Produced by Jules Dameron & Jennifer Losi Director of Photography Eunsoo Cho Starring Kalen Feeney as Wanda Macy Amber Zion as Genevive Taylor Antoinette Abbamonte as Dr. Regina Tracy Original Music by Carrie Glover Production Designer Katherine Hunt Costume Designer Tara Shucart Makeup Artist Brian Barnett Edited by Jessica Continenza Sound Editing & Mixing Amie Farquhar Assistant Director Kevin Huie Digital Coloring Erik Call Script Supervisor Jennifer Losi Gaffers Rachel Elias Sherri Kauk Grip Sophia Berman Fotiadis 2nd Assistant Camera Carolina Espiro Production Sound Gilda Garcia Fight Choreographer Abby Walla Students Nick Zerlentes Arezo Moazezi Awet Mo Ashley Griffith Michael Fox Mary Beth Baierl AB2072 Protesters Casey Hamilton Sandy Yu Rebecca Rodick Mary Ruth Summers Lilly Crisman Jennifer Losi Shahram Shahidi Nick Zerlentes Arezo Moazezi Awet Mo Ashley Griffith Michael Fox Mary Beth Baierl Megan Shelton Laura Schrenk Passerbys & Patrons Brian Barnett Sandy Yu Rebecca Rodick Kevin Huie Rachel Elias Shahram Shahidi Arezo Moazezi Michael Fox Production Assistants Sandy Yu Rebecca Rodick Karen Soza-Meza Sylvia Yepez Michael Fox Casey Hamilton American Sign Language Interpreters Cindee Bart Kelsey Mitchell Megan Shelton Laura Schrenk Casi Thieme Kendra Blessing Production Design Sandy Yu Catherine MacKinnon A Special Thanks To Patrick Boudreault Dan Smith Maria Gable Janiah Ranger Sharon Ann Dror Erik Call Chrissy Kiehl Alan Weischedel Terrylene Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness A Lovely Thanks for the Donations! New Music Video Release with Azora! [“Somebody I Used to Know”]
Azora Telford, visionary and creator of this project asked me to jump onboard as the film director just days before this production with Ruan du Plessis on my team. I had the honor of working with such a dedicated performer– and a CODA, no less. [Child of Deaf Adults]. She wanted to work with a team who had her voice and spirit. I absolutely enjoyed working with everyone involved, including Terrylene and Sherry Hicks. I wanted an opportunity to play with slow motion and American Sign Language. Let me know your thoughts! ~Jules

When she wishes upon a shooting star happines comes in the form of her worst phobia: an italian singing clown. Who knew? Enjoy one of my proudest works from 2009. I enjoyed directing this project because I learned so much about directing musical performance and creating a film from my voice, plus I was privileged to work with such a talented cast & crew. Produced by Catherine MacKinnon and I, written by Erik Call, and an amazing cast & crew, including Madyson Graham, Jenn Kuhlman, and Thaddeus Anders. Shot by Wayne Betts, Jr. Sound design by Amie Farquhar, and original music by Russell Wiener. -Jules

Nice, huh? DIRECT LINK TO KICKSTARTER SITE: http://kck.st/zxLz0u [Subtitled in English] So exciting! I look forward to chatting with Keith Wann and Wink again. They’re hilarious and I look forward to joking around with them again. I’ll be using a Convo Relay interpreter to speak for me I’ll be talking about “Crazy Town.” Be sure to tune in, since “Crazy Town” is a truly amazing project and I’m so excited to be talking about it. It’s the biggest project I’ve been involved in outside of the deaf community and using interpreters to work on set. It’s been a fun ride, and because of this I really want this film to raise enough funds so we can complete the project! And what’s more? If you’re deaf or hard of hearing, you get complete access to the show, live! Acted in “Harvest”! [Feature Film]
The photos below are from the feature film, “Harvest” in the production stage. You can check out their Facebook page here. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Harvest-Independent-Film/139255002771470 I had a lot of fun working with Martha Anger, who plays the role of Joy. I had the honor of playing her overbearing sister. One of the things I discovered about the acting process was that it’s highly crucial that whatever we say in American Sign Language is authentic and true to deaf culture– if our roles are as such. We are both deaf sisters, so that adds another nature of our relationship. We talk in a way so that we are relaxed and we easily understand each other. LaJuan, the director was very understanding and supportive of this process, so we made an excellent team. I enjoyed the experience thoroughly! -JULES SYNOPSIS: “Harvest” explores the lives of four different people, from four different walks of life, struggling to make it work in these hard economic times. Carson, the husband of a paralyzed war veteran Anna, battles to cope with Anna’s paralysis and the grief of her loss. Joy, a deaf- college student with a scholarship to a prestigious ivy-league school, finds herself pregnant and in conflict to make the right decision. Randy, an ex-con, strives to support and care for his three younger siblings without getting back into the drug game. Vick, a homeless jazz musician, hustles to care for two children, who ran away from an abusive foster home. Directed & Written by LaJuan Johnson Produced by LaJuan Johnson, David M.
